Uncover Europe’s best-kept secret, Slovenia, a spectacular country on the Adriatic coast. Tucked between Italy, Austria, Croatia, and Hungary, Slovenia has a deep-rooted history as a confluence of varied European cultures. Its small size belies the diversity of its landscapes, from the towering Julian Alps to the welcoming shores of the Adriatic Sea. Join Whitman College for a unique exploration centered in Portorož, an Adriatic coastal delight, and Ljubljana, Slovenia’s charming capital. Throughout a week-long journey, expert guides will lead us through pristine lakes, stunning castles, and historic medieval towns, offering an insider’s view into this enchanting country.
Admire the serene beauty of the Adriatic coast in Piran, going behind the scenes of the town’s Venetian architecture. Journey into the Goriška Brda wine region, where you will meet boutique wine producers who will reveal the essence of Slovenian viticulture. At the UNESCO-recognized Škocjan Caves, marvel at some of the world’s most extensive underground caverns in the company of a geologist. Revel in the almost inconceivable splendor of Lake Bled, boarding a traditional Pletna boat along its blue-green waters to a charming island church. In Ljubljana, meet skilled jewelry makers for a hands-on private demonstration of their craft and take an enlightening inside look at masterpieces at the National Gallery of Slovenia.
